New
Hope Llantwit Major is a registered charity company based in the historic town of Llantwit Major, South Wales. It was founded
by Gordon and Heather Taylor and the charity shop opened in 2002. Donations go to our sister organisation Nuevas Esperanzas
which they put towards their many projects based in Nicaragua. We pride ourselves in providing help and aid towards the under
privileged in Nicaragua. Nuevas Esperanzas means New Hope in Spanish. Nuevas Esperanzas was created when Mercyships another
charity withdrew from Nicaragua. Their main work is based in Leon, Nicaragua and the team carry out the practical work that
the locals need. New Hope and Nuevas Esperanzas signed an agreement on the 21st May 2008 in Leon, Nicaragua. New Hope was
set off from the ground with the help of a nurse who left possessions in her will. Gordon gets satisfaction out of the work
he has done so far, he felt very touched when he carried out relief work in Nicaragua, he wanted to continue the support and
have an everlasting bond with the country and its people. This bond will hopefully be passed down onto the next generation
who is keen to keep his dream alive.
New Hope Llantwit Major have helped
fund many projects, one in which we help monthly is the bee project, helping fund this project helps to reduce deforestation
and soil erosion in the communities. It also helps to provide an alternative source of income to the local communities by
using the honey which the bees create. New Hope Llantwit Major have also helped build a school in El Ojochal and provided
a form of transport to get to the hard to reach areas for the Nuevas Esperanzas team to be able to carry out their work. We
come alongside Nuevas Esperanzas in supporting the locals in Nicaragua in how to live and make a living for themselves. Please
take a moment to read about our sister charity on our Nuevas Esperanzas page.
New Hope relies on volunteers to help steer the ship! We need volunteers to help with the day to day tasks that
are carried out in running the shop. We value our volunteers and love how different and individual they are. Volunteers help
to keep New Hope going, without them we couldn't survive and and help the under privileged in Nicaragua. Without out volunteers
we could not exist.
If you are interested in volunteering please pop into the
shop, or give us a ring, or alternatively you could email us. Just simply go to the contact us page and find out our details.
New Hope Llantwit Major also prides itself in supporting our local community such
as local businesses and setting up a support network for any person in need of anything practical or even emotional need.
We are a professional charity organisation that adds a personal touch to creating a shop that not only
offers a professional look but also a warm and friendly welcome.
